"Scoot, Whoosh, Repeat" first premiered at GW's Fall 2019 Dance Concert. Utilizing weight and breath as some of my main motivators, I wanted to create a work which had a life of its own.
My inspiration for this concept came from videos of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker's choreography. A collective breath amongst dancers make them appear to be moving cogs in a greater living system.
The final product involved a lot of repetitive floor movement, which produced an organic mood and natural presence.
Intention:
“Scoot, Whoosh, Repeat” started out as an interest in breath and how it propels and motivates movement. There is a dichotomy with the biological idea of breath in which it is inherently automatic, but can also have intentional value, especially in dance. My goal with this choreographic exploration was to further analyze these two schools of thought: discovering both a meditative, thoughtful side to breath as well as a driven, actionable narrative.
